The Government of Ebonyi State has approved funds for the State Ministry of Agriculture to raise chickens in the State’s Hatchery, Nkaliki.
Following a memo at the State Executive Council from the Commissioner for Agriculture Ebonyi State, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku, the Governor approved funds for raising 15,000 old layer chickens for the production of eggs and 20,400 broilers.
The Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru made an inspection tour of the industry and assessed the level of the revitalization of the hatchery. He was satisfied with the poultry cages installed and gave the green light to introduce the birds.
The Hatchery which falls under the State Ministry of Agriculture, had been in existence before democratic Governance reached Ebonyi State. Discernibly, it came to the fore during the administration of the first civilian Governor of Ebonyi State. Spanning about 38 hectares, the Ebonyi State Hatchery is a poultry, fishery, and piggery industry for raising chickens, both layers and broilers alike, fish and pigs in commercial quantities.
The ongoing revitalization of the hatchery includes the construction of feed mills for poultry, fishery, and piggery farm.
