Gratuities: Governor Nwifuru Approves N1.6bn for Second Trench

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has continued payment of the backlog of gratuities of Ebonyi State Civil Servants from 1991 to 2023.

The Governor who on assumption of office, cleared the backlog of gratuities of State Civil Servants from 1991 to 2021 to the tune of N4bn, has approved another N1.6bn for the payment committee to make payment of gratuities from 2021 to 2023. Also included in the second trench, is a mop-up payment for retirees who were not captured in the first exercise, for one reason or another.

Recall that the Governor made a promise, that he would ensure that payment of gratuities to retirees is done on actual retirement date. He has therefore availed the payment committee of all needed arsenals to prosecute this exercise. In no distant time, the committee will catch up with retirees of 2024.

Payment of the second trench began on April 30, 2024. As at the close of work on May 8, 2024, 489 retirees had been paid to the tune of N1,361,411,669.50 kobo.
