Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has remodeled the State’s Broadcasting Corporation to a digital medium.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has overhauled Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC). This purposeful investment has come by way of transition from analog to digital equipment and other structural inventions, fitting for a modern-day broadcasting service.
EBBC, as fondly known, houses both radio and television stations – salt 98.1fm and Salt TV, respectively. The digital development in the station has seen it set to transmit 24 hours non-stop. Its reach at the moment is South-East, South-South, North-Central of Nigeria, and more than half of Cameroun. It now has a total operating frequency of 7.5 megawatts, though currently exercising only 3 megawatts of power due to official restrictions. Before now, they operated at 0.75 megawatts.
The mast which is newly installed to support the broadcasting antenna is 300 meters above sea level. The TV antenna on top of the mast is 20ft. The television station (Salt TV) has been fully digitalized as well. It is set to hit the waves again once the station receives the Direct Satellite Broadcast License (DSBL) which has been applied for. Before now, the station was run on Terrestrial License or what is called, over-the-air-television, which is distinguished from modern technologies.
During his visit to inspect the station, Governor Nwifuru expressed delight at the new digital world of EBBC, and commended the Director General, Comrade Tony Nwizi, for a comprehensive overhaul of the station. The Governor, however, noted that he would have a thorough discussion with members of the staff of EBBC, to know their concerns and ensure that their productions match the weight of investments that have been brought into the establishment.
