Ebonyi State Government under the steady hands of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis OgbonnaNwifuru has procured 20 brand-new Hiace buses for Ebonyi State Transport Corporation (Ebotrans), so to boost its services.
This gesture by the Governor, which is meant to ease transportation issues for Ebonyi people in this harsh economic times, is another signature of the present Government in its determination to meet the needs of the people.
Ahead of the commissioning of the buses by the first Civilian Governor of Ebonyi State, H.E. Dr. Sam Ominyi Egwu on October 1, 2024, Governor Nwifuru recounted the birth of the corporation during the first democratic administration in Ebonyi State, and how it has generated revenue for Ebonyi people. It was on this ground that he invited former Governor Egwu to perform the function.
“We did this to ease transportation issues faced by Ebonyi people. By the special Grace of God and as the servant of the people, we deemed it necessary to reactivate the company for the benefit of our people – the people of Ebonyi State. And that is why we procured these 20 Hiace buses.
“We will not determine the price now. We will allow the handlers to determine the price. But let me assure you that the price will not only be cheaper, but a lot of issues our people face in other transport services will be erased in this one. We are very much aware of the high cost of transportation, but like I said earlier, we will not determine the price, I promise you that it is going to be far cheaper than what you can ever think of.” Governor Nwifuru said.
The former Governor then went on to perform the honours of commissioning the buses.
“I want to thank the Governor for this wonderful gesture. From what we heard today and what we know, the Governor is not only starting fresh projects but the older ones that appear to have gone down, he is resuscitating all of them.” – H.E. Sam Egwu.
In furthering his desire and vision to ensure a total overhaul of the company, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, through an approval by the State Executive Council during the meeting of October 8, 2024, appointed Mrs. Nnenna Igwe, as the new General Manager of EBOTRANS.
