Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has directed that compensation be paid speedily to those whose buildings were demolished at Vanco Junction, noting that those affected by the demolitions have been patient enough with the Government.
The Governor made this known during the State Executive Council meeting of Friday, September 6, 2024, following the approval of funds for payment of the compensation by the State Executive Council.
Consequently, the State Executive Council constituted a seven-man committee headed by the Honourable Commissioner for Infrastructural Development for Concession, Engr. Obasi Abara, to conduct the payment exercise.
In a memo presented by the Commissioner for Lands and Survey Ebonyi State, Dr. Mathew Nwobasi, the Council approved One Billion, Six Hundred and Eighty-One Million Naira (N1.681bn). However, the committee’s shrewd evaluations will ensure that payments are made properly.
The popular Ebonyi State Vanco Junction is undergoing the construction of a state-of-the-art flyover, that will decongest the area, improve economic activities, ease the movement of goods and services, expand the city, and improve the overall aesthetics of the capital city.
This project necessitated the demolitions.
